Kristin Tutor Eberts
Kristin Tutor Eberts was born in Hidden Hills, California. Inspired by her mother’s uniquely feminine panache and sophisticated style, she felt a connection to fashion from an early age. Kristin and her friends spent hours inside her mother’s closet trying on dozens of beautifully-made evening shoes and handbags, fascinated with the multitude of colors, shapes and textures. Kristin has always had a passion for fashion and an appreciation for art and interiors. Throughout her life she has utilized her penchant for style to communicate her personal expression through fashion, art and interior design. Her journey has always been a focus in the arts. She has garnered the ability to translate her point of view from her life experience of travel and lifestyle. She enjoys the process of identifying that which inspires her and cultivating those ideas with her clients’ visions for their own homes and lifestyles. “Designing is really a collaboration between the designer and the client. It is being able to guide your client toward becoming the best version of themselves and helping them express that through the design in their home and in their everyday life,” Kristin says. “It is important to have a strong sense of space and continuity while keeping the integrity of who the client is.” “It is my job to cultivate a story that relates to each client from start to finish and the process of doing that is what makes me love what I do.” Following graduation from USC, Kristin worked as a Production Assistant in Set Design as well as a Wardrobist on films including The Whole Ten Yards and Spartan. While she found the work exciting and challenging Kristin soon realized she was more interested in manifesting her own vision through opening a business. Kristin recognized she could parlay her love of fashion and art into an experiential clothing store-cum-art gallery. She opened Aura, a high-fashion clothing boutique on Montana Avenue, in August 2006. Kristin was the sole proprietor and buyer of the store. She was one of the first boutiques to carry lines such as Zac Posen & Marchesa. Also featured were Proenza Schouler, Isabel Marant, Peter Som, Alexander Wang, Preen and Herve Leger, to name a few. In August 2007 Kristin opened Little Aura, a children’s clothing store on Montana Avenue, derived from the inspiration of her first pregnancy and first-born daughter Stella. She was inspired by the clothing line Bu and the Duck out of Tribeca, NY. Kristin secured the west-coast exclusive rights to sell the line at Little Aura and from there the doors opened. In August 2011 Kristin had made a decision to close her retail business and evolve in the direction of interiors and lifestyle. Through the course of those 6 years Kristin accumulated the experience of amalgamating the design of two stores and homes located in the Bel Air and Holmby Hills. That experience afforded her the skillset and passion to move into the field with confidence and drive. Today Kristin unveils TutorEbertsDesign, a company that plans to encompass all facets of interior design and in the future hopes to develop a line of her own.
